Biography: I study Public Policy and Education at Brown University. As a first generation college student, I hope to one day work in education policy, dealing with issues on education inequities and college access for low-income students. Throughout my education, I have been lucky enough to have a strong support system to fall back on. I would not be the person that I am today without the support of my family, countless school officials, and various organizations that have made higher education a financial reality for me. I hope to work to improve the education system in America so that a high aspiring, low income student does not have to rely on chance to afford a college education.
In college, I currently serve as Director of External Partnerships for 1vyG, an education startup aimed at improving institutional resources at top universities. In the past year, I have helped develop partnerships with various first generation organizations including I’m First and Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative. As part of 1vyG, I worked with the leadership team to plan the first ever First Generation conference at Brown, which drew 200 students eight universities in the Northeast as well as 50 administrators from the Ivy League. In my free time, I also serve as a tutor for the Partnership for Adult Education, where I teach adults with learning disabilities the necessary skills to find a job.
