Biography: Mohammed fled Afghanistan at age 12 and arrived in the UK where he attended a school for the first time. There his world rapidly expanded from the three mountains surrounding his village to the sprawling city of London where he could learn whatever he wanted, bring about change in his own right and have dreams and ambitions. His journey through life has been turbulent, but it has left him even more determined to succeed.
At first, it was difficult for Mohammed to integrate into British society and he had to tackle various academic challenges at school. He was learning the English alphabet and basic arithmetic whilst his peers were years ahead of him. However, despite these initial difficulties, it was his self-belief and determination to overcome the challenges of his childhood that helped him to win a place at the University of Oxford. He currently holds two scholarships to support his undergraduate studies.
Through his curiosity, Mohammed has earned himself placements in British parliament, Deutsche Bank, Afghan Embassy in London and the Confederation of British Industry. He has also founded a local restaurant with his brother, using the skills he acquired in school to handle the administrative and financial aspects of the business. He aspires to lead a meaningful career in development and leave behind a legacy to challenge the narrative of what a young Afghan can achieve.
