Biography: I was born and raised in Tanzania, where I lived with my brother and mother until coming to the US to attend Harvard University. For High School, I attended the International School Moshi in Tanzania for High School and obtained an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
I have had a challenging childhood due to my family’s financial issues and because of it I learned early on how to be independent and entrepreneurial. I started my first business in April 2012 when I was only 15 years old, making and selling shawls and coasters which I sold in my community. This experience shaped my future as it showed me that I can make a meaningful contribution to my family as well as the greater community. I now strive to make a difference in my country once I complete my studies and gain experience in the technology sector.
I decided to pursue Computer Science since I felt that through this concentration, I will get tools that I can use to then effect change in my community.
After graduating from college, I hope to work in the technology industry where I can learn from industry leaders and devise ways to effect change through technology in my own country. After I have gained sufficient skills and experience, I plan to return to Tanzania and become a leader in technology, and to conduct charitable work in the education sector.
