Biography: My name is Habiiba Malingha and I am studying Business with Environmental Economics Policy minor at UC Berkeley. I was born in Kampala Uganda where I finished the first 10 years of school. I then went on to do the IB Diploma in the UK on a scholarship from Pestalozzi International Village Trust. Receiving this scholarship marked a huge turning point in my life, as my experience in the UK prompted me to develop a greater interest in global finance, and politics. I am a MasterCard Foundation Scholar and Fellow since 2016.
I am consistently seeking to find intersectionalities in both my academic and professional life. Summer 2017, I traveled to three different African countries; Uganda, South Africa, and Ethiopia. I aimed to observe the nature of middle-class citizenry in these countries. I, however, spent more time in Uganda and Ethiopia. I am an active traveler with more motivations than taking pictures in beautiful places. This has pushed me to do nontraditional courses as well as engage in activities outside my major. I am an emerging markets enthusiast, a data science curious and public policy critic.
I plan to pursue a career in corporate finance to change the financial structure that governs healthcare provision. So I look for intersectionalities between the private sector and policies. I am aiming to intern with a top healthcare insurance company in the summer of 2019.
